Nelson Akawui Riquelme Catalán es un cantautor nacido en Canadá, pero de padres chilenos. A los tres años, su padre, Nelson Riquelme, lo introdujo en la música popular folclórica de América del Sur. Desde entonces, pasó su niñez tocando música andina con la banda de su padre por las calles de Montreal, Québec y Vancouver. Estas experiencias, junto con su profunda conexión con su herencia mapuche, han sido lo que ha inspirado su mezcla musical. Para los amantes de la música urbana alternativa, Akawui le da una nueva expresion al genero urbano. Este artista fusiona distintos géneros musicales tribales como la cumbia, los cantos de las naciones indigenas, la música andina junto con los sonidos contemporáneos del EDM, reggeaton y hip hop. Fusiona lo tribal con lo moderno. Sus composiciones reflejan una riqueza de percusiones con une toque de música electrónica, pero manteniendo tradiciones folclóricas.
Nelson Akawui Riquelme Catalán is a singer-songwriter born in Canada, but of Chilean parents. At the age of three, his father, Nelson Riquelme, introduced him to the popular folk music of South America. Since then, he spent his childhood playing Andean music with his father's band through the streets of Montreal, Québec and Vancouver. These experiences, along with his deep connection to his Mapuche heritage, have been what has inspired his musical mix. For lovers of alternative urban music, Akawui gives a new expression to the genre urban.
